Wenzel motors

Wenzel positive displacement motors provide superior performance and longer operating life for today's exacting drilling programmes. EDS owns 4 ¾”, 9 5/8” and 11 ¼” Wenzel mudmotors. Wenzel offers the most versatile array of downhole motors. Wenzel motors utilise the industry's best technology in sealed bearing assemblies, adjustable bent housings and sealed drive lines. The downhole "Power Solutions" Wenzel motors provide result in improved directional or straight-hole drilling - Wenzel's leadership in the manufacture of positive displacement motors is based on a combination of oilfield production high-torque, low-speed motors that are the industry standard. The reduction in overall drilling costs and unmatched motor performance Wenzel provides is possible because of numerous exclusive design innovations.

Bearing Housing Assembly (Patented)
Extended bearing life and effectiveness is provided by Wenzel Downhole's sealed bearing assembly. Wenzel's three radial supported sealed bearing assemblies are capable of withstanding extreme radial and axial loads. The unique bearing assemblies are fully oil lubricated and sealed. Both hydraulic chambers are pressure balanced which protects the seals and bearings. Since the radial and axial bearings are protected from the drilling fluids, motor life is extended and bit hydraulics are maximised. The output shaft is larger in diameter than most competitive motors. The three radial bearing supports, extra diameter and strength of the output shaft reduce deflection and stress and allow the Wenzel motor to be rotated in the hole with reduced likelihood of fatigue-induced failures. A threaded locknut is used in the bearing assembly instead of a conventional split ring. This eliminates vibrations and stress cracking on critical loading areas on the output mandrel. High temperature sealing requirements can also be accommodated when specified. Wenzel Downhole sealed bearing assemblies are lubricated with high temperature synthetic oil.

The unique Wenzel Downhole one-point offset and oversized bore feature lets you make directional adjustments easily from the rig floor using standard rig tools and a heavy duty drive line. Adjustments are in 13 increments from 0 to 3°. And, because the bend is in closer proximity to the bit, you get less deflection and greater accuracy. Wenzel's patented field adjustable 3° bent housing.

Our constant-velocity universal joint is connected to the rotor and rod fitted at each end with sealed and lubricated universal Joints. The strength and service life of these joints is greatly increased over that of conventional joints due to the large internal clearances available through the adjustable bent housing assembly. This advanced design avoids breakage and lock-up that can occur with other concepts.

Stabilisation
When attached to the motor body, this device eliminates the additional tool string length needed when a stabiliser sleeve is used. Stabilisers can be either straight blade or spiral blade. This stabiliser along with the integral wear pad at the end of the adjustable housing provides the full range of stabilisation required for directional and kick-off work. For steerable motor assemblies, a concentric or eccentric stabiliser may be installed at the top of the motor and on the under-gauge stabilizer on the lower end of the motor near the bit base.
